(Teenage Mutant) Ninja Turtles - Basic Series 1 - April O'Neil - Playmates 2014

I have a feeling that Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is a property that will continually reinvent itself.  I'm not a diehard fan by any means, but I'm still excited for the new movie.  I love all the classic cartoon toys coming out.  And I definitely love the original comic figures.  Not to mention all the weird animated and live action versions in between.  Seriously, I can't imagine what a TMNT superfan's collection might look like.  I'll bet it's pretty awesome though (my favorite color is green!).  April O'Neil has become such a classic pop culture lady.  A modern Lois Lane in a yellow coat.  I sometimes imagine myself amassing a whole shelf of canary-hued journalists, but alas, I only have three.  This newest toy depicts Megan Fox as April in the upcoming live action film.  When I found her in the stores this week, it was the first good look I had of this figure.  The blurry pictures on the internet up till now made me think she was going to be a larger deluxe figure, but in actuality, she's a 5" basic figure with limited (but good) articulation.

I think she's a great looking figure over all.  My figure has a couple seam issues on her head.  There are bits of plastic flaring under her chin and back by her jawline.  Easily fixed with an Xacto, but worth noting as many figures I saw seemed to have this issue.

April comes with a Camera, a Camera Bag, and two greatly oversized Sai's.

They look ridiculous in her hands.  They must belong to Raphael.

The face doesn't necessarily look like Megan Fox, but it's a really nice headsculpt regardless.

She's articulated at the hips, shoulders, wrists, and neck.  The leg and shoulder joints are hinge and pivot which provide a wide range of motion.  Definitely not the standard cuts you expect from a basic figure.

Here are some set pics of Megan Fox as April.

Time for a Comparison Shot!

Cheers!

  1. I'm actually planning to pick her up to use with the Nick Turtles. She really does look pretty decent.

    1. Yeah the style of this seems to be a nice hybrid of Movie and Animated styles. I think a lot of folks will do the same as you since the animated April seems so highly stylized.

    1. You're absolutely right she would make for a great Scarlet Witch custom. I've seen this figure show up in stores again recently, so it should be easy to find a spare.

    1. Yeah she doesn't really resemble Megan Fox at all, but it's a decent generic face if you can find one that is painted well.
