I was planning on saving this post until after I see Superman (2025) in the theaters in a few weeks. I always like to give my thoughts on the movie if I can be patient enough to wait. But in this case, I failed... but it's also because I'm putting faith in McFarlane Toys giving us a belated cinematic Hawkgirl figure. This 6" line from Spin Master is new for them. They have consistently put out 12" and 3.75" figures for all their big DC movies, but for Superman (2025) we have 12", 6", and 3". The latter two being new scales for the company. These new 6" figures remind me of the older basic figure lines we saw from Mattel with Mera, Mary Marvel, Darla, and Wonder Woman. I'm really curious to see what the future of the DC license will be. There is conflicting information stating that both Spin Master and McFarlane will no longer be working with DC in 2026, but I expect there to be more information shared at SDCC. I really appreciate the Hawkgirl figures they gave us, so I hope they stick around. Let's check out Hawkgirl below!

Legends of Tomorrow - HAWKGIRL!
With Hawkgirl set to make her big-screen live-action debut in Superman next month, I thought it would be fun to look back at the first live-action Hawkgirl from the Arrowverse CW show DC's Legends of Tommorrow (2016-2022). This show featured a variety of characters already introduced in Arrow and Flash (and plenty of new characters) in time-travelling adventures led by Rip Hunter the Time Master. Some of the notable characters are White Canary, Firestorm, Vixen, The Atom, Steel, Hawkman, and Hawkgirl. Hawkgirl (played by Ciara Renée) and Vixen (played by Maisie Richardson-Sellers) were my main draw to the show. Personally, the CW shows never appealed to me, but these two characters were very cool and thankfully got the action figure treatment. I always felt the DCC Arrowverse figures looked a little stiff and unappealing in the packaging, but in person they are more dynamic than I was led to believe (but not overly so). Let's check out the Legends of Tomorrow Hawkgirl below!

Imaginext - HAWKGIRL!
When all the Superman Movie (2025) product started rolling out last month, the last thing I expected was an almost complete heroes set from Imaginext. The only thing that would surprise me more is a follow-up set with Metamorpho, Lex Luthor, Engineer, and Robot-4. Hawkgirl is the character I'm most looking forward to in the movie. I really dig her cinematic costume design and I'm a fan of Isabela Merced. While her character is seemingly omitted from the main McFarlane DC Multiverse movie assortment so far, she's received two scales of Spinmaster action figures and this unexpected Fisher-Price Imaginext figure so far (She will also have an "Ultra Rare" Funko Pop released on July 11th). I would also love to see her in the new Spinmaster 3" scale that seemingly includes every character except Hawkgirl. Imaginext has always been amazingly inclusive with its character selection and they didn't disappoint with this multipack. It's an incredible toyline. Let's check out Hawkgirl below!

Superman (2025) 12" - HAWKGIRL!
I was very excited to get my first piece of merchandise for the upcoming Superman movie in the form of this 12" figure 4-pack. It wasn't certain that we would see any figures of this new cinematic Hawkgirl until a few weeks ago when three products were unveiled in quick succession: This 12" figure, a 6" Spinmaster figure, and an Imaginext. All that plus the two McFarlane non-movie figures hitting the shelves right now have me in an absolute Hawkgirl frenzy. I'm planning to post a handful of older figure reviews in my excitement. I somehow missed the news that Hawkgirl was even in the movie until relatively recently. And learning that Isabela Merced would be playing Kendra was just an added bonus. I've been a fan of Isabela since 2019 when she showed her range in both Dora and Let it Snow in the same year. She then played my favorite spider, Anya Corazon, in Madame Web and I'm currently enjoying her in The Last of Us. I'm so excited to see her in Superman. Let's check out this first figure below!

Murray Comics COLLECTED EDITIONS!
K. G. Murray Publishing Company was an Australian company which was well known for reprinting American comics for the Australian market. Most of these were straight-forward reprints without significant editing or curating. But for a brief period from 1980-83, they rebranded as Murray Comics and started to do some interesting things. They created what I believe to be the first character-centric collected editions, predating modern TPBs by 10-20 years. Of course these were very different -- magazine-sized inexpensive black-and-white reprints -- but the curation of the content is the unique thing here. For the first time, characters like Zatanna, Hawkgirl, and Black Canary had their "own title" composed of their various features and backup stories. As someone who is endlessly curious about the development of the female superheros in popular culture, these books are a crucial turning point - exemplifying the shifting of public focus toward these often neglected "secondary characters" since the late 70s.

Justice League Animated HAWKGIRL!
I was a huge fan of Batman comics in elementary and middle school, and I must admit I was a bit possessive and snobby about these characters. Okay, a lot snobby. Even the Tim Burton films got high scrutiny from little source-material-purist know-it-all me (despite loving them now). So when Batman the Animated Series premiered a few years later I was not having any of it. I thought it was mocking my favorite anti-hero. I honestly didn't revisit the properties and begin to appreciate them until the early 2000s (basically when Harley became mainstream and I was diving deep). I suddenly saw what everyone else did all along. When the DC Collectibles Timm-verse line began I immediately on board, and they remain one of my favorite collections. I'm much less familiar with the Justice League cartoon, but I always appreciated Hawkgirl's prominence and strikingly simple design. When I saw this figure in my comic shop last month I knew I had to have her. Let's check out Hawkgirl below!

Imaginext Collection of DC SUPERHERO LADIES!
Imaginext DC Super Friends - Assorted Heroes - Fisher-Price/Mattel 2017-2018
The DC SuperFriends Imaginext line is one of my favorite collectibles at the moment. For a long time the line was void of any female characters. Then in early 2012 they introduced Catwoman. That figure actually inspired me to create this blog, Because when I found it (in a Target in the middle of a blizzard), I was super excited to share my discovery, but I didn't have any outlet. Coincidentally, the DC message boards had been taken down a few months prior as part of the New52 reboot (that was my go-to nerdy community at the time). So within a month I started She's Fantastic - although I never did review that Catwoman. Over the course of the next few years, we got Wonder Woman, Harley Quinn, and Poison Ivy. Then the floodgates opened and I've had trouble keeping up. This review will collect my nine latest figures: Black Canary, Batgirl v3, Harley Quinn v2, Vixen, Hawkgirl, Carrie Kelley Robin, Wonder Woman v4, (Flashpoint) Wonder Woman v5, and Cheetah v2. Let's check them out below!

DC Bombshells - HAWKGIRL!
DC Designer Series: Ant Lucia #6 - Bombshells Hawkgirl - DC Collectibles 2017
One of my biggest collecting regrets is selling off a large Hawkgirl collection I had accumulated about 12 years ago. I had always been drawn to Hawkgirl's image. The Yellow, Green, and Red costume, the big wings, the beaked helmet. I loved everything about her design. But every time I tried to read her in a comic, I could never get interested. So as much as I loved her look, I was never emotionally invested in the character. The collecting angle had its own headaches. By nature of their bulky wings, displaying any large group of Thanagarians is a headache. They take up a ton of space, they often don't stand well, and when they topple they take a ton of neighbors down with them. I remember feeling good and decisive when I sold them, but almost instantly regretting it. Since then I've picked up about 4 or 5 new Hawkgirls and I'm always tempted to hunt down my old favorites, but for the most part I refrain. I was really surprised as how good this Bombshells figure looked in my LCS and just had to pick her up.

DC SuperHero Girls - HAWKGIRL!
DC Comics Super Hero Girls - 6" Action Figure Series - Hawkgirl - Mattel 2017
I feel like we've been waiting forever to get some new DC Super Hero Girls action figures. But in reality, it has only been 18 months since the first figures hit the shelves back in the Spring of 2016 and we've seen a steady release of new product since then (albeit very few new characters in that mix). Katana was the last new female character introduced and that was almost a year ago. But now two of the most colorful and exciting characters (in my humble opinion) are released at once (Hawkgirl and Starfire) with a great-looking Cheetah on the horizon. Suddenly my excitement in the line is renewed and I'm already formulating my wishlist; Star Sapphire, Killer Frost, Miss Martian, Black Orchid, etc etc. I'm always a dreamer. This Hawkgirl figure is just stunning. I always thought her color blocking made her look like a would-be member of the original Teen Titans, and this figure illustrates that perfectly. Now you just have the challenge of actually finding her (she seems extremely scarce). Let's check out Hawkgirl below!

Justice Society of America - HAWKGIRL!
JSA: Series 01 - Hawkgirl (Kendra Saunders) - DC Direct 2007
There have been a ton of great Hawkgirl action figures over the years. I can think of five great ones right off the top of my head... and those are only the ones from DC Direct. Not to mention the extensive number of animated Hawkgirl figures. Yet despite the abundance of these feathered heroines, it's easy for me to confidently claim this version as my favorite. Surprisingly, this was only the second collector-oriented Hawkgirl figure (after DC Direct's Hawkman & Hawkgirl 2-Pack from 2000), yet to me it stands out from the pack. The two main focal points for me are (1) the amazing sculpt by Sam Greenwell. She looks feminine and strong - which are the main components I look for in my action figures. And (2) the removable mask. Normally I think this functionality would be a recipe for disaster on an action figure, but it is literally perfect. I don't know if that credit also goes to Sam Greenwell or the DC Direct production engineers, but either way it's a fantastic achievement. Let's check out Hawkgirl below!

DC Collectibles HAWKGIRL (EARTH 2)!
DC Comics: The New 52 - Earth 2 - Hawkgirl - DC Collectibles 2014
I think the costume redesigns in DC's New 52 has been hit-or-miss. In most cases I prefer the classic look over the new modernized designs. Hawkgirl is definitely a huge exception to that judgement, though. Don't get me wrong, her signature yellow, red, and green is perfect. I just also happen to love this blue redesign. In the New 52, Hawkgirl of Earth2 is Kendra Munoz-Saunders, a famous treasure hunter who was bestowed with wings from the Egyptian God Horus while on a mission. She dons a unique blue costume that looks great with her skin tone. In the New 52, Kendra is a dark-skinned Hispanic girl. That ethnicity change is part of what makes Hawkgirl so intriguing. Despite having the same name and wings, you just have a feeling that this is an entirely new character that you have to (and want to) get to know. DC Collectibles is on a major roll this year. Aside from a couple cases of weird face paint, they've hit every lady out of the park. Let's check out Earth 2 Hawkgirl below!
