Mortal Kombat - KITANA!

Mortal Kombat XI - Kitana (Edenian Blue Version) - McFarlane Toys 2020

For someone like me who doesn't play any video games, I get bizarrely excited for new Kitana figures. In the past few years I've picked up three very different versions of the figure. Each time, of course, part of the excitement is the (always unfulfilled) assumption that there will be more characters made. At the very least Mileena and Jade would make for an amazing trio. But, no, the recent lines all seem to produce no females other than Kitana. At least the old 90's lines would typically toss in a Sonya Blade. I have some faith that this newest McFarlane Toys line might be different though. For starters, McFarlane is well-versed at producing toys for video game properties, even if they're just adding a handful of new figures each year. Secondly, Mortal Kombat XI is loaded with cool characters. And 12 of them (of 37 currently) are female. I think we'll definitely see some more ladies in the line, and I honestly don't even have a preference for who is next - which is a refreshing position. Let's check out Kitana below!

Mortal Kombat X - KITANA!

Savage World (Retro 5.5" Series): Mortal Kombat X - Kitana - Funko 2018

I'm not a Mortal Kombat fan. I played it maybe three times in high school and it just wasn't my thing. That said, I've been looking forward to this figure and I am really excited by the possibilities presented by Funko's new Savage World line. The inaugural license under this brand is Mortal Kombat (and I suppose retroactively the Zorn figures were in this line as well) and they are all done in vintage 5.5" He-man style. I really just wanted to see the quality of Kitana in person and start daydreaming about future figures. My wishlist includes a lot of impossible properties like Crystar, Golden Girl, and Sectaurs. The Savage World line is one of the things I'm looking forward to most in all the Toy Fair reveals later this week. This Kitana figure is actually really nice. I only wish their first female figure was a character with an exposed face. Funko really nailed the proportions and articulation of vintage "warrior" action figures. I hope they prove popular so we can see more of what they can do. Let's check out Kitana below!

Mortal Kombat - KITANA!

Mortal Kombat X - Princess Kitana - Mezco Toyz 2015

Fighting games don't have a good track record for sensible female costumes. Fetish lingerie with boots seems to be the status quo. (How this ever became the standard getup for a formidable female warrior boggles the mind). Mortal Kombat X is the sixteenth game featuring Kitana.  I haven't played video games in years, but I was definitely a gamer 22 years ago when Kitana made her first appearance. To be honest, the girls in the early years of Mortal Kombat kind of annoyed me. This is mostly because they were just multi-hued versions of the same character. Jade, Mileena, and Kitana reminded me of the Chipmunks with their minimal color-coded differences. I wanted variety dammit! Over the years their looks have evolved independently into the impractical mass of straps we see today. Don't get me wrong, this action figure is really well made and looks great.  And I don't regret picking her up for a second. I just think no fighter would be caught dead trying to spar in this outfit. Let's check her out below!
