Star Wars 6" Black Series - REY!

Star Wars: The Force Awakens - Black Series 6" Rey (Jakku) & BB-8 - Hasbro 2015

Rey is shaping up to be the main female protagonist in the upcoming Star Wars: The Force Awakens film. She's featured prominently in the teaser trailers, she's in all the magazine photoshoots, there are Halloween costumes of her trickling into the stores, and best of all, she's already received (at least) four action figures! Yeah, so although not much in known about her, she's pretty much guaranteed to be the Leia/Padme of the new movies. This 6" Black Series figure was one of only two items I was able to snag on Force Friday. My version has pretty reprehensible paint masking - which unfortunately seems to be a common problem. It's especially noticeable along her hairline. By the end of this review, I had succumbed to temptation and touched up the hair with brown paint. It's a shame the Hasbro QC is so inconsistent. Marvel Legends has been practically perfect, but Star Wars and G.I.Joe has been sloppy. Hopefully things improve for future waves.  Let's check out Rey in detail below!

Okay, here's the point where I touched her up.  All I did was paint the sculpted hair parts that were sloppily painted fleshtone.  It changed her look a lot.  I want to change her weird lip paint too, but I'll do that after this post.  In an ideal world, we'd all be able to find her with good lines right out of the package.

Like we've seen in previous Black Series figures, the articulation is pretty awesome.  Her shoulder range is hindered a little bit by the clothing sculpt.   The same goes with her legs and her skirts.  But overall the poseability is still pretty great.

Rey comes with a staff (or a blasting rod?) with a stiffly-formed shoulder strap.

She also comes with the droid BB-8.  I'm really excited that there seems to be a new droid with personality.  That was something I really thought was lacking with the prequels.

Here are some of the few shots of Rey that have surfaced so far.

Time for some Group and Comparison Pics!

I'm a little bummed out that the scales between Rey and Leia are so different.

With the Elite Series Captain Phasma
(Mentally subtract the height of her stand for a true comparison, but she still towers over Rey)

Cheers!

  1. At Star Wars Celebration Daisy Ridley was quite a bit taller than Carrie Fisher so if Slave Leia's head wasn't so small I think they would look about right. :). Great review and i really like this figure!!!

    1. You're right, It's all about the cranium. Maybe it shrunk from all the electroshock therapy! (sorry I just read her Shockaholic memoir)

  2. I think the scale is just about spot on, actually. Carrie Fisher is only 5' 1" tall while Daisey Ridley is 5' 7". so there should be a noticeable height difference. :)

    1. The height thing is understandable (I checked out their actor heights since I read these messages) but the head and hand size still looks like they aren't the same species. I don't have the Boushh disguise Leia yet, but I'm curious to see her in comparison to these two.
