Hercules: The Legendary Journeys - SHE-DEMON!

Hercules: The Legendary Journeys - She-Demon (Stone Strike Tail) - ToyBiz 1996

Welcome to the first of my Halloween reviews for 2013!   I'm not going to stress out about finding a new vampy lady every day like I attempted last year.  But rather, I've been saving my creepier reviews all year for the month of October.  She-Demon was always my favorite monster from Hercules.  She's essentially a hybrid of Lamia and Medusa, but presented as a child of Echidna and Typhon.  Unlike this toy, the TV version of She-Demon looked like a supermodel (played by Nicky Mealings), with a really bad CGI serpentine tail.  I guess the CGI was actually pretty good for a mid-nineties television show, but looking back now it's kind of laughable.  I also loved how this character was seductive instead of outright malicious.  I always love characters like that.  The toy leaves a lot to be desired, but it also it pretty fun.  Anytime an expressive face finds its way onto a toy the results can be hairy.  But the more I photographed She-Demon, the more I appreciated her.  Let's check her out below!

She-Demon is articulated at the waist, shoulders, and neck.  She also has a whip-action tail with an articulated rattle (mine doesn't seem to "whip" right)

She comes with an awesome accessory of a hollow stone upper torso so she can pull her Medusa gaze trick on almost any toy in your arsenal.

Here are some images of She-Demon from the show.

Time for some Comparison Pics!

Here she is with Xena and Atalanta.

Cheers!

  1. It's soo awesome to see all these figures again! Mine have been out in storage for many years.

She-Demon is really cool. I didn't realise how different she looked onscreen, but like Atlanta & Xena the figures were ok for the time.

Had to go find my old collection pics to remember what I had from these lines:

    1. I haven't started collecting any of the Xena figures from the Xena line yet. Maybe someday. Something that bothered me about the that line was the inconsistency in style and design. Your collection pic is making me reconsider that though.

There is a very she-demon-ish looking figure at Toys'R'Us right now in their generic toy section. I'm thinking I might have to get her and review her before the month is through.

  2. i agree with Artistix. I love this figure. She looks fierce, but nothing like the actress. I have the Xena collection. I have them all. They look great together from affar, but get too close and you see all the mistakes. but they wer amazing for their time. Much better than the Hercules ones.

    1. I almost bid on a bunch of these last week, but I passed at the last minute. I think I need to see them in person before I take the plunge.

    1. I love getting old 90's figures cheap. It's one of those great joys that non-collectors will never understand.

    2. Agreed! There were tons of awesome stuff in that place. It was as if time stood still from the early nineties... Like finding a long-forgotten tomb!
