Masters of the Universe Classics - MERMISTA!

MOTUC Club Eternia - Mermista - Mattycollector Exclusive - Mattel 2014

Mermista has been my most wanted Princess of Power figure ever since Adora first arrived 5 years ago and showed us that the POP ladies would definitely be included in this line.  I am glad we had to wait so long though because I think the stars had to be aligned to provide us such a perfect figure.  Any of the minor flaws we've seen from MOTUC figures in the past would have been a major disappointment on a long-awaited character like Mermista.  But luckily all that stuff has been ironed out.  Some surprises for me included (1) her mermaid tail is glittery, (2) her main tail fin is blue instead of green, (3) her human legs are bare instead of blue, and (4) her hair is made out of a new lightweight flexible rubber.  All of these changes and surprises are perfectly acceptable to me though.  I probably wouldn't have even noticed if not for me actively seeking something about this figure to critique. I'll let all the pictures speak for themselves.  Let's check out Mermista below!

Mermista comes with a set of human legs.  In the cartoon, she would leap into the air in a pike dive and transform.  However, as mentioned above, in the cartoon she had a body suit that was the same color as her mermaid tail.

The human legs are unimpressive.  The lower part of her tunic really has a saggy "loin cloth" look, and the high waist and long hair combine to make her look too short (in comparison to other MOTUC females of course, she's perfectly proportional IRL).

Mermista comes with additional accessories of a green shield and what looks to be a ram's horn bugle.. although I'm sure it's intended to be some sort of seashell.  The shields on every Mermista I've seen are sharply bent at the bottom due to the packaging.  The plastic of the shield is so rigid that I'm not sure if the old heat trick could even fix it.

Ahh.. the beautiful mermaid tail.

Mermista comes with a little plastic stand that enables you to stand her upright.  In order to work properly, the tail has to be rotated backwards, bent forward, and then the clip has to fasten over the ridges right above the fin.  It's a little tricky.

Here are some images from the cartoon.  I can hear her faux-french accent now...

Time for a Group Shot!

Cheers!

  1. She is a beautiful figure! Cannot wait till my Mermista & Spinnerella arrive.

What an amazing way to end the year of She-Ra's 30th anniversary!

Bring on Angella & Huntara :D

    1. I can't get enough of her. She's sitting by my TV in all her glittery glory. Hopefully yours arrives safely. I'm really excited to see any new reveals at ToyFair. Although I'm not getting my hopes up since the loss of ToyGuru may effect communication with the fans. I'm dying to see Peekablue.

  2. Out of Peekablue & Perfuma, I am looking forward to Peekablue more. Such an awesome design.

RE Mermista's dumpy crotch - I believe that is supposed to be fixed with Angella. The awful crotches certainly went out with a bang...worst one yet on Mermista. Yikes!! :D

I will be using the mermaid form. I'd imagine most of us will.

    1. I'm actually a little afraid of what Peekablue's feathers will look like. I gather that POP-fans are about 50/50 whether they prefer the filmation or toy look. I really dislike the toy look with those metallic zig-zags, but a lot of people think the filmation feathers are too boring. Hopefully they make them reversible or something.

I hope Angella's crotch area is fixed. If she looks anything like Mermista I'll be terribly disappointed.

  3. Just ordered Mermista and Spinny. Cannot wait (BTW im Eclecticactionfigures, this is my other account, don't ask).
Fantastic review. I might have to get another Mermista. Not for the legs just cause there are not near enough Mermaid action figures. This might be my fav this year. Meant last year, we'll see...

    1. Sometimes I respond to comments under one of my other accounts accidentally and I know it must confuse people haha. You're absolutely right about the lack of mermaid action figures. I hope the next Vitruvian Hacks wave has mermaids in it. I've suggested it to them a few times already.

    2. Thanks for the instructions on how to clip her to the stand. And OMG! those Vitruvian HACKS look awesome. I need them all. I wish i subscribed to that. Hope i can get them on ebay or whatever. I studied Greek Mythology, and i dream of action figures of all the monsters, like Echidna, Harpy, the Sphinx, etc. Maybe one day i will do it myself. Female greek monsters!! I bet it would get funding.

    3. Mythology is an almost unlimited pool of potential figures. You should do it. By the way, Boss Fight Studios keeps posting designs of Series 02 on their Facebook. My favorites so far are the Dragon Harvester and the Elven Archer.

    1. She actually wasn't a club exclusive. She was only available on Mattycollector.com, and was part of Club Eternia, but she was available to all. There is usually only one true exclusive figure per subsciption. In 2014 it was Light Hope for Club Etheria and the Unnamed One for Club Eternia. There are always a few regular figures that get made into unofficial exclusives by having no stock available on sale day. Sweet Bee and Two-Bad are good examples. But all the others are available to the general public on the monthly sale days... often with backstock offered for sale, too. Check out the website and good luck!
