Marvel Legends - SONGBIRD!

Marvel Legends - Avengers: Infinity War - Wave 1 - Songbird - Hasbro 2018

There is a niche kind of character that I am almost always obsessed with. This is when a female character is introduced as a villain, but eventually reforms and becomes a hero (albeit with an edgy personality). I think the most notable is Rogue, but there is also Firestar, Polaris, Scarlet Witch, Spider-Woman, Emma Frost, Black Widow, etc, etc. Seriously most (Marvel) female heroes started this way, and they are all among my favorites. I don't really know too much about Songbird, mostly because I've never read the Thunderbolts or New Avengers where her modern popularity was established. But I know that for her first 18 years in the comics, she was the sonic-powered villain Screaming Mimi who antagonized The Thing, Dazzler, and various Avengers. I love her modern costume. I always thought it had a lot of nods to Phoenix, and the pink "sound wings" just added to that homage when they were added to the design. It all makes for a really dynamic and colorful action figure. Let's check out Songbird below!

My only problem with this figure is the white streaks in her hair aren't too well painted. They are fine, but they tend to look pretty blobby.

Songbird comes with her signature wings made out of "solid sound."

Songbird comes with the Right Arm Build-a-Figure piece for Thanos (Movie version).

There was another version of Songbird displayed at shows in 2013. Thankfully she was never released because this new version looks a thousand times better, and she isn't nearly popular enough to warrant two figures in five years.

Time for some Group and Comparison Pics!

Here she is with her wave-mate Proxima Midnight.

Cheers!

  1. Cool figure, and interesting trend how many female comic book heroes started as villains. Never noticed that.

  2. Gotta love those tsundere girls! ;-)

I read Thunderbolts from the very beginning and became a huge fan of Songbird. She’s been at or near the top of my most wanted list along with Polaris since the Marvel Legends line first began back in 2002. I’m very happy with the figure overall, but I agree that the paint is uncharacterisically sloppy in some areas. Most of my issues are with lack of coverage underneath the mid torso articulation and below the thigh cuts. Yours is actually the nicest one I’ve seen so far. The “swoops” are nice and clean on both sides of the hips. On mine and most of the other ones I’ve seen, the sides of the hips are a mess, and poor coverage on the inside top of the legs can leave little white lines at the thigh cuts.

Minor complaints, though. Overall, ir’s a great design, and I’m also grateful we didn’t we didn’t get that initial prototype (which I not so affectionately referred to as “Wrongbird”)

Speaking of tsundere, how have you managed to avoid figmas all these years? I can see how you might not be into anime given how exploitative it can be, but the figures themselves are beautiful and cover a wide range of Japanese pop culture outside of anime.

Yours is actually one of the best I’ve seen in that respect. Did you touch up the paint at all?
