Transformers Busts - ARCEE!

Transformers Busts - Arcee (Limited Edition of 1000)  - Diamond Select 2008

With all the great G1 Arcee products we've seen in the last two decades, it's amazing to look back and see one of the first official pieces to capture the token Transformers female in all her glory. The Heroes of Cybertron PVC figure was released at least five years earlier, but this DST sculpt celebrated her in a whole new way. It's still shocking to think they they only made 1000 of this mini-bust (and only 600 of Elita One). Back in the early 2000s, mini-busts were all the rage. So many different companies were producing them and every comic specialty store had display cases full of beautiful little statues. I avoided them for as long as I could (purely for budgetary reasons). But just a few months earlier I had purchased my first (Firestar). Arcee and Elita One were my next two purchases. Now I can't even count how many I have. But even through those multitudes, these Transformers busts stand out as perfect collectibles from a time when these characters had almost no representation. Let's check out Arcee below!

Transformers Busts - ELITA ONE!

Transformers Busts - Elita One (BBTS Exclusive LE 600) - Diamond Select 2008

For roughly seven years, this was the only Elita One piece in my collection (I now have over twenty). As much as I've always embraced her as a key character in Transformers lore, the tragic truth is that she had only appeared in a single G1 episode (that most diehard Transformers bros hated). And my handful of Transformers friends had never even heard of her. So this bust was a dream come true for me. She has a perfect classic sculpt from Mark Wong and I didn't hesitate at all to buy her. She was actually my second ever order from BBTS and also my second ever mini-bust purchase (after the 2007 Firestar Bust that opened the floodgates). The only downside to this purchase was my overinflated expectations. I either heard a rumor of a Chromia or just imagined it, but either way I was a little deflated they only made two fembots. But I'm so glad Diamond Select Toys made the first official classically-inspired female Transformers products. Let's check out Elita One below!

New Etheria - SHE-RA!

Masters of the Universe Masterverse: New Etheria - She-Ra - Mattel 2025

Ever since the 1987 movie Evil-Lyn figure came out in 2023, I have had my fingers crossed for the William Stout cinematic concept art for She-Ra (who was unfortunately cut out of the script). I knew this was a pipe dream, but I would still be vocal about it everytime there was speculation about SDCC or NYTF reveals. However, that itch was kindof scratched when this New Etheria She-Ra was revealed a few months ago. The New Eternia (and now New Etheria) sub-line of MasterVerse featured more realistic fantasy-inspired designs. There is really no connection to the William Stout concepts and this figure, but this stylized cinematic-looking She-Ra is a great consolation. My only fear is that this and Hordak will be the only New Etherian characters. Teela in the New Eternia line is due this Summer (along with Kobra Khan), but there isn't much known beyond that. This She-Ra figure is really great in person and really shows off the potential of this line. Let's check her out below!

Transformers Authentics - ELITA-1!

Transformers Authentics (Discount Store Basic Series) - Elita-1 - Hasbro 2025

The newfound A-list status of Elita-1 continues with this basic series figure from the Transformers Authentics line. This is an inexpensive, yet official, line made by Hasbro for stores like FiveBelow, Dollar General, and Family Dollar. There are several different scales for this line, but so far the female figures (Arcee and now Elita-1) have only been in the smallest Bravo Class style. The roster of these figures is pretty exclusive with only the top-tier characters making the cut. Ever since her leading role in 2020's War For Cybertron animated series on Netflix, Elita-1's popularity has been on a steady climb and she has been the go-to token fembot ever since (in Earthspark, Transformers One, Cyberworld, etc). I've always adored this character so I'm thrilled she is finally in the spotlight and getting an abundance of long overdue merchandising. While this isn't the greatest toy in the world, I considered her inclusion in this line a badge of honor. Let's check out the Transformers Authentics Elita-1 below!

Iron Man and His Awesome Friends - IRONHEART!

Iron Man & His Awesome Friends - Armored-Up Avengers Pack - Hasbro 2025

Back in October I came across a press release about a new Disney Jr Marvel series titled Iron Man and His Awesome Friends. Based on the marketing of the similar Spidey and His Amazing Friends, I was instantly excited about the potential for this exact toy I now hold. Ironheart has been an obsession of mine for quite a few years now. I was a little late to the party, picking up my first issue around 2018 (a couple years after her debut). But I was instantly hooked and quickly read all her previous stories. Then the world took notice and she appeared on the big screen in Wakanda Forever (2022) which leads to her upcoming solo series on Disney+.  Having her appear in the Disney Jr Spidey universe is a no-brainer. She has already starred in several Marvel Rising storylines, but these preschool-aimed cartoons have a proven track record and a huge audience. As of this post, the release date of this new series is still a vague "Summer 2025", but I'll keep checking for updates. Let's check out Ironheart below!

Superman (2025) 12" - HAWKGIRL!

Superman (2025 Movie) - 12" Action Figures - Hawkgirl - Spin Master 2025

I was very excited to get my first piece of merchandise for the upcoming Superman movie in the form of this 12" figure 4-pack. It wasn't certain that we would see any figures of this new cinematic Hawkgirl until a few weeks ago when three products were unveiled in quick succession: This 12" figure, a 6" Spinmaster figure, and an Imaginext. All that plus the two McFarlane non-movie figures hitting the shelves right now have me in an absolute Hawkgirl frenzy. I'm planning to post a handful of older figure reviews in my excitement. I somehow missed the news that Hawkgirl was even in the movie until relatively recently. And learning that Isabela Merced would be playing Kendra was just an added bonus. I've been a fan of Isabela since 2019 when she showed her range in both Dora and Let it Snow in the same year. She then played my favorite spider, Anya Corazon, in Madame Web and I'm currently enjoying her in The Last of Us. I'm so excited to see her in Superman. Let's check out this first figure below!

Masters of the Universe - CATRA!

Masters of the Universe Origins - Cartoon Collection - Catra - Mattel 2025

She-Ra's 40th Anniversary year is off to an impressive start with the Masters of the Universe Origins Cartoon Collection. In late 2024 we got She-Ra, Mantenna, and Hordak. And now in 2025 we have Leech, Vultak, Grizzlor, Frosta, Catra, and upcoming Despara and Shadow Weaver. Of course I'm greedy and I want so many more characters (Scorpia, Octavia, and Glimmer please!) This Catra figure is long overdue. Her vintage action dolls were a pretty strange interpretation of her design. A pink catsuit, a black fur skirt, and a realistic silver cat mask were a far cry from the Filmation style I preferred. Catra combines two of my favorite character traits in cartoons: cat-themes and wicked villainesses. So she was a natural obsession for me. The only downside was her voice. So many of the POP characters had irritating voices. But forty years later and I still catch myself doing random impressions of Mantenna, Scorpia, or Catra to my confused peers. At least I amuse myself. Let's check out Catra below!

Masters of the Universe - FROSTA!

Masters of the Universe Origins - Cartoon Collection - Frosta - Mattel 2025

The Masters of the Universe Origins Cartoon Collection is absolutely thrilling me. One of the reasons I didn't become a toy collector earlier in my life is because three of my favorite nostalgic properties didn't have action figures. Jem, Transformers, and She-Ra all had toys, but I specifically wanted cartoon-accurate action figures of female characters.. and all we got was guys and dolls. Even in the superhero arena, if you exclude the occasional early Wonder Woman figure, female heros didn't hit the toy aisles until the mid to late 90s. When the Cartoon Collection gave us Teela, Evil-Lyn, and She-Ra early on, I was very happy, but not surprised. There had been multiple attempts to give us classic Filmation style versions of these characters. But it's this second batch of Frosta, Catra, and Shadow Weaver that has me giddy. Even the male characters like Leech, Vultak, Mantenna, and Grizzlor are filling huge gaps in the vintage lines. I can't wait to see who is next. Let's check out Frosta below!

DC Comics - JADE!

DC Multiverse - Green Lantern Corps Jade (Red Platinum) - McFarlane Toys 2025

Jade is one of those classic characters that I have always been aware of (and intrigued by) but have somehow never read a single comic where she appears. When I first started reading comics she was a frequent character on the covers of Infinity, Inc and Green Lantern. Of course at that age, my paltry paperboy salary meant I had to be very selective with my comics, and none of her titles ever made the cut. If I would have realized back then that her mother is Rose Canton (aka The Thorn) and that her green skin is due to her inherited plant powers combine with her father (Alan Scott's) mystical powers I would have been obsessed.. I only discovered her origin after the Blackest Night/Brightest Day storylines 15 years ago. It made her more than just a cool lantern design. Jade won the 2024 McFarlane fan vote (although Bizarro and Eradicator were also in contention and still got figures). She was definitely my top vote, but I was ecstatic to see the overall fan demand. Let's check out Jade below!

Super7 ReAction - VIOLET BEAUREGARDE!

ReAction Action Figures - Willy Wonka Wave 03 - Blueberry Violet - Super7 2024

When I think of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (1971), the dominant scene in my memory is when the compulsive gum-chewer Violet Beauregarde swipes a piece of "The most amazing, fabulous, sensational gum in the whole world." And starts experiencing the full three-course dinner of flavors: Tomato Soup, Roast Beef and Baked Potato, and finally... Blueberry Pie. At which point she turns violet and inflates into a gigantic blueberry and the Oompa Loompas roll her away for juicing. Without having even seen this movie in full, I was somehow very aware of this scene. I love how the contest winners are all challenged to resist their greedy temptations only to fail in spectacular ways. Violet stands out for having a physical transformation and special effects (Mike Teevee's shinking doesn't really count). I was pleasantly surprised to see a third wave of Willy Wonka figures that included this representation. Quite possibly the largest (standard size) ReAction figure so far. Let's check out Violet below!

Super7 ReAction - VERUCA SALT!

ReAction Action Figures - Willy Wonka Wave 02 - Veruca Salt - Super7 2024

The interesting thing about Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (1971) is how all the characters (aside from Charlie Bucket and Grampa Joe) are so wholly unlikeable. If the movie is a test of these different characters' self-control and manners, they all fail in amusing and spectacular ways. Veruca Salt was special to me for two reasons. Firstly, she has the coolest name (I also loved her namesake band in the mid-90s). And secondly, her greedy voice most matches my own embarrassing inner mantras - specifically when it comes to collecting. I like to label my habits as obsessions or compulsions, but I'd be lying if I didn't admit there was a fair amount of childish greed in the mix too. Anyway, because of that, I've always had a special affinity for the bratty bad egg, Veruca. These Super7 ReAction figures don't especially resemble the likenesses of the 1971 actors, but the essence is certainly there (and I'm more of a fan of the books anyway, so I'm especially lenient). Let's check out Veruca Salt below!

Super7 ReAction - VIOLET BEAUREGARDE!

Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory Wave 01 - Violet Beauregarde - Super7 2023

I never watched the original Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (1971) in it's entirety until I was in my 30s and was dating a big fan of the movie. I had seen snippets of the movie throughout my youth and was never a huge fan. This is mostly because I loved the books (Amusingly, I started with Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator and then backtracked to the Chocolate Factory). I remember having three big critiques of the movie: (1) Willy Wonka seemed more creepy than eccentric, (2) the chocolate river looked like dirty water, and (3) the factory looked too much like a factory. You could see big windows and pipes and it ruined the illusion I expected. I still stand by those opinions and I haven't truly enjoyed any of the adaptations of the books yet. But when Super7 announced these ReAction figures, my underlying nostalgia for the books won out and I had to get them. Violet Beauregard is the sole female from Wave 1 and is one of my favorite bratty characters. Gum-chomping and all. Let's check her out below!

ThunderCats Ultimates - WILLA!

ThunderCats Ultimates - Series 7 - Willa (Warrior Maidens) - Super7 2023

Willa was a regular recurring character in the original 1980's ThunderCats cartoon. I used to watch this show with feverish regularity, but somehow I have zero memories of Willa or her band of Warrior Maidens. I suppose I was too distracted by the outlandishly fantastic character designs of all the Cats and Mutants to commit the human-looking characters to memory. But Willa appeared in thirteen episodes, and she led a band of female treetop warriors who were fierce fighters and skilled archers. In any other environment, I would have been absolutely obsessed with her. But lined up against felinoid aliens, ancient mummies, and robotic teddy bears, her awesomeness was unfortunately diluted. One of my favorite things about modern toy collecting is that I am often exposed to these cool characters from the past that I had overlooked. Now when I watch the old cartoons I can't believe I ever ignored her. I'm also excited for Willa's younger sister, Nayda, due later this year. Let's check out Willa below!

Transformers - TRAINBOT YAMABUKI!

Transformers Masterpiece - MPG-08 Trainbot Yamabuki - TakaraTomy 2024

The Trainbots are an Autobot faction that transform into... trains. I don't know anything about them other than the fan excitement when these Masterpiece Series Trainbot figures started coming out. When I discovered there was a female train, I splurged and ordered her. I'm always a sucker for fembots that have heads that look reminiscent of the original Autobot and Decepticon insignias. I love the Optimus-like helmet and overall silhouette. I think her robot mode is really fun and her color palette is totally unique amongst my Transformers collection (I believe her name is a type of Japanese yellow rose). The transformation, however, was one of the most difficult I've ever attempted. The train mode is (apparently) super accurate and her lower legs are essentially just the exterior train panels wrapped round-and-round her calves. I had to watch four different YouTube videos to figure it out. I can't say she was totally worth the high pricetag, but I'm glad to own her. Let's check out Trainbot Yamabuki below!
