DC Comics World's Finest POWER GIRL!

DC Comics: The New 52 - World's Finest 2-Pack - DC Collectibles 2014

Power Girl is a great character. I used to write her off as another generic cleavage machine. The truth is though, I had never read a single story of hers. My only frames of reference were skeezy fanboy comments on nerdy message boards.  My first true introduction wasn't until the pages of 2009's Terra miniseries drawn by Amanda Conner. This portrayal of Kara eventually segued into a solo Power Girl series that was amazing (but unfortunately fell victim to the New 52 reboot). These stories made me love the character.  She was suddenly tough, funny, quirky, down to earth, and ready to kick anyone's ass who stared at her chest too long. I was very very sad when her series got the axe.  It wasn't too long, however, until she was reintroduced to the New 52 world in the pages of World's Finest alongside her longtime friend Huntress. The only problem with this new version was her awful costume redesign. Luckily she was back to her signature duds by issue 12, as celebrated by this amazing action figure.

I think the Phil Ramirez sculpt is gorgeous.  My only complaint with this design is that she looks a little too thin.  I always imagined her a little more curvy and muscular.

Her articulation is pretty good.  I count 15 joints (her gloves are intended to rotate but mine are stuck in place).

Time for some Comparison Pics!

Here is Power Girl with her World's Finest teammate (and action figure 2-Pack companion) Huntress.

Here she is with the recent DC Collectibles Wonder Girl.

And finally, here she is with the 2006 Infinite Crisis Power Girl and the DCUC Power Girl.

Cheers!

    1. I think it looks stoic and attractive. I suppose I can see how some might call it vacant, but I don't wholeheartedly agree. I did originally think that her head seemed to skinny and small for the character, but then I remember the last run of her solo title (with the Sami Basri covers) before the reboot and this is pretty much how she looked.

  2. Just got the set, and I must say, I think is the best PG out there (thou I love the first one DCD for her retro feel). Hope you could made the wrist rotate. I find with this figures that photography makes their skin translucent, but in hand I am much happier. The faces are quite plain but pretty. They look iconic, rather than some strange gnarl.

    1. I agree. This is my new favorite PG. The Infinite Crisis one was my favorite up till now. I used to own that old JSA one but sold her on ebay for some reason a million years ago. I wasn't really a fan of the character until she got that Amanda Connor solo series so I guess I thought she was expendible back then. I must find her again. The translucent plastic of the skin looks great in person and I'm a big fan of it. I can gripe about the photos of it all day long, but all I really care about is how she looks on my shelf.

    2. Oh, and I definitely prefer plain facial expressions rather than the risk of trying something more charismatic. That's ususally a recipe for disaster.

    1. I agree. Out of context, her chest seems like she's the product of so perv sculptor's overactive imagination. I always thought her costume and endowment was silly until I read her solo series drawn by Amanda Conner. I realized it was just a part of the character, for good or bad.
