Masters of the Universe - Galactic Protector SHE-RA!

MOTUC Club Etheria Exclusive - Galactic Protector She-Ra - Mattel 2014

She-Ra has had a lot of interesting variants throughout her career.  This is mostly due to the fact that her vintage toys were in doll form (as opposed to the action figures in the He-Man line).  The cloth outfits and rooted hair of her toys led to the inevitable "fashion packs" which created a whopping 16 additional costume variations (in addition to the three main She-Ra releases).  In MOTUC, we already have a regular She-Ra and a Bubble Power She-Ra, so with an additional 17 official vintage variants to choose from, Mattel instead chose to come up with an original design to fit in with the New Adventures of He-Man.  I couldn't be happier.  While the remaining vintage designs have merit, they aren't nearly as cool or canonical as this Galactic Protector She-Ra.  Her costume design reflects her vintage toy details combined with the futuristic "space adventure" theme on the New Adventures cartoon.  I think the design and execution are fantastic.  Let's check out Galactic Protector She-Ra below!

What the hell's up with this bio??!  So she murders Horde Prime, gets possessed by his soul, becomes Despara again, resurrects Skeletor, and destroys Eternia??  WTF Adora?!  I thought we were friends!

Some of the images make her visor look odd and misplaced.  In person it looks great.  The reflections aren't as noticeable and you can actually re-position the visor slightly to meet your aesthetic scrutiny.

She-Ra comes with a Shield, a Sword, and a removable Visor.
I love the translucent green that matches Galactic Protector He-Man's accessories.

Her visor is removable.  Its stays on securely with the magic of good sculpting (like Catra's mask).

This version of She-Ra made a brief appearance earlier this year in one of the new mini-comics.

Time for some Group and Comparison Pics!

Here she is with the standard She-Ra (with BP She-Ra's body).

..and with the addition of Bubble Power She-Ra (with the standard body).

Cheers!

  1. Is the pistol on her hip removable?

    1. Yes it is. I completely forgot to even mention it as an accessory. An interesting thing though: I have two of this figure and both of them have bent pistols. I think they are jammed in the holster in a weird way that bent them.

  2. It's kind of ironic. If you had told me up front that Galactic Protector She-Ra was going to be one of the six figures in the Etheria sub, I would have gone on a tirade about a variant taking up a valuable slot that should have gone to another member up the Great Rebelllion. As it turns out, I think she'll be my favorite figure from the sub. That look just works for her. I think she'll make a nice BFF for Battleground Teela who's kind of been the odd one out in my MOTUC collection. ;-)

    1. I completely agree with you. It's probably best that Mattel kept her secret until after the sub was locked in. I can't get over how cool she is now, but I know I would have rejected the idea of her. I'll bet she looks good with Shieldmaiden Sherrilyn, too!

  3. Love this figure. She is one of my faves from the sub as well.

Can't wait for Mermista & Spinnerella! Angella has been one of my biggest POP wants so I am glad she is arriving early next year. Hopefully, aside from the remaining POP women, we also see Veena & Granita in 2015.

    1. I would love to see Granita and Veena, but there's actually no room for them unless there's some crazy mini-sub. I really hope the ill-fated minis line doesn't sour the Mattel folks away from pitching us an extra regularly-scaled sub.

  4. I just remembered we already have Huntara & Mara in line for next year. New Adventures will have gone from no women to (hopefully) 3 by the end of next year. Provided we get Crita, though I'd say she is coming since she wasn't part of the New Adventures fan vote.

    1. Crita would be interesting, but do we know if Jetlag characters are even an option legally? I would assume they would require the same amount of negotiations that the Filmation rights took. Stuart over on Shadow Weaver's Realm made a great digital mockup of a MOTUC Crita.

  5. Shes out already. I still haven't got Sweet Bee! Love the design. Great review as always.

  6. She's just a toy version of a poorly designed character from some very poor fan fiction. If She-Ra were created for the New Adventures 25 years ago, she would NOT look like this.

  7. Great review. I really like the design of this figure and decided to get it. Won the figure on an eBay auction last night. :D
