DC Collectibles STARGIRL!

DC Comics: The New 52 - Stargirl - DC Collectibles 2014

Stargirl is one of those rare DC characters who I know next to nothing about.  In fact, with all my obsessive reading of DC Comics, I don't think I've read a single issue that she's appeared in.  That said, I've been curious enough about her various toys and comic covers over the years that I've googled her plenty to find out more.  Courtney Whitmore first appeared in 1999 as a new version of the Star-Spangled Kid (with a costume modeled after the Zoo Crew's Yankee Poodle.)  Soon she was given the Cosmic Staff and became Stargirl (the new Starman).  The character was created by Geoff Johns in honor of his younger sister, Courtney, who was a victim of the TWA Flight 800 crash.  That tragedy struck a major chord with me.  I grew up roughly 30 minutes away from the high school that lost 16 students on that flight.  Although I didn't know any of them, we were the same age and from the same rural area.  Knowing that Stargirl is a tribute to a victim of that tragedy makes me like her even more.

This is by far the nicest Stargirl figure we've seen.  The only odd thing about her is the size of her eyes in the final version.  They are a little large compared to other DCC figures (as well as her solicitation and box art pictures).  They aren't horrible, but they do make her an outcast among the other DCC ladies.  I may attempt a customization.

Stargirl comes with the Cosmic Staff.

Here are some images of Stargirl from the comics and animation.

Time for some Group and Comparison Pics!

Here she is with the shamefully awkward DCUC Stargirl (she can't even hold her staff so I left it out).

And with a few of the recent DCC ladies.

Cheers!

    1. I much prefer the pants version to the shorts. I was also very amused by the Yankee Poodle connection which I only discovered when researching this review.

  2. This is a really good looking figure! I too was unaware of the Yankee Poodle connection. That's pretty fun!

I was aware of the character being based on Johns' sister and the Flight 800 connection, so I have always had a fondness for the character because of that. A very sweet homage.

  3. It does upset me that this character, a relative newcomer has three figures, yet the ladies from The Legion, Halo, looker etc has none...>sight<

    1. I hear you. I'm still waiting on a Black Orchid figure someday. Maybe with her new role in Justice League Dark it will be more likely. As far as the Legion goes though, I would be your enemy because my most wanted figure is Shikari... purely based on character design. second would be Dawnstar (I have a thing for wings).
