LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean EVIL MERMAIDS!

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides - 4194 Whitecap Bay - LEGO 2011

I love mermaids.  Ever since I was a kid they were my favorite of the mythological beasts.  Sure, I had strong obsessions with Centaurs, Griffins, Unicorns, and the whole fantastical menagerie of legend.  But mermaids were special to me.  Unfortunately my love of them also made me pretty particular about what kind of mermaid I like.  In short, I don't go for cute, pretty mermaids.  Ariel is pretty boring in my book.  I like my mermaids to either be fierce warriors, or (ideally) vicious predators.  Finding evil mermaid figures is pretty challenging.  Especially ones without rooted hair.  These Lego figures fit the bill though.  I think they're amazing.  This review is technically the start of my Mermaid week reviews leading up to the release of Mermista.  But my attempts to hoard a bunch of interesting mer-figures fell woefully short.  There will still be some great reviews, but not to the degree of previous themed weeks like Bee Week.  Let's check out the awesome Lego mermaids below!

These mermaids were released as part of the POTC series for the 4th film in the franchise Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides  (Based on Tim Powers' 1987 book, On Stranger Tides).  The mermaids were both included in the Whitecap Bay playset (4194)

The blonde mermaid on the Left is Tamara, and the brunette mermaid on the Right is Syrena.

At this point you're probably thinking that these lovely sirens look anything but evil.  In fact, Syrena looks downright sheepish.  But wait for it....

Bam!  Evil spin-around heads!

They each came with a seaweed whip (just like Poison Ivy's vine).  Unfortunately I could only find one for this review.

They also made appearances in LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean: The Video Game.

Their tails look good when reversed, too.

Time for a Comparison Shot!

Cheers!

    1. I do get a lot of the blind-bag minifigs. In fact I just finally got the pig today at walmart. My favorites are the "animal costume" figures like the Bee Girl, Bunny Suit guy, Chicken Suit, Lizard Suit, etc, etc. And my second favorite are the monster-type figures like the ogre and medusa. Super excited for the upcoming series with the unicorn girl and the girl ogre!

    2. Oh that reminds me, I don't know if you're into bionicles (been with them since 2000), but are planning on getting Gali, whose a female character, for a review for the site?

    3. Inreresting. I never thought of there being a female Bionicle character. I tend not to buy figures that aren't clearly identifiable as female, but if I see her in the store I just may cave!

    4. There are quite a few of them, mostly the blue colored figures with some minor exceptions in both respects, not all blue characters are female, not all non-blue characters aren't female. Granted that may all be changed as bionicle is being rebooted and going through generations like transformers, 2001-2009 bionicles are now G(eneration)1 and 2015-? are G(eneration) 2
