Marvel Legends - MARIA HILL!

Marvel Legends: S.H.I.E.L.D. 3-Pack - Toys R Us Exclusive - Hasbro 2015

I have never been a fan of Nick Fury. In the mid-80s when my brothers and I would get our comics from the spinning rack at Woolworth's, his books were a constant (and unwelcome) presence.  The militant nature of Nick Fury: Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. was exactly what I was trying to escape from when reading comics.  I wanted capes and tights, not guns and cigars.  His widespread infiltration into Marvel Comics kept me mired in only X-books for years.  Then in 2005, Maria Hill was introduced as a standout S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent and soon filled in as Executive Director when Fury went missing.  Not-so-coincidentally, this was around the time I started liking the Avengers for the first time.  I know it's quite a double-standard for me to have such distaste for a militant man, and such admiration for a militant woman, but that's a discussion for me and my therapist. Maria has crossed over into animation, television and film, which really cements her place in the Marvel Universe. Let's check her out below!

My Maria has a few tiny flaws.  The most notable was a large plastic mold-nub on the top of her head.  I've edited it out of most of these photos because it annoyed me so much.  She also has a few rough patches under her chin and on her hands.  I will fix them all with my trusty Xacto after I post this.

This next photo represents her only bad angle. For some reason this 3/4 shot makes her face look odd, but from every other angle she's gorgeous.

This is seriously a stunning figure.

Maria uses many of Black Widow's body parts from the Winter Soldier line.  Unfortunately this includes those weird molded-into-the-holsters guns.  This was tough with Maria because she has one very gun-ready hand.  Luckily there are two guns in the 3-Pack... both of which are shown with Nick Fury in the pictures.. but Maria is definitely keeping hers.  Also, Nick Fury has different hands than shown on the box and he can only hold one gun.  So it's like the universe wanted Maria to have one (I'll ignore the fact that he has two holsters).

Actor Cobie Smulders has played Maria Hill in The AvengersCaptain America: The Winter SoldierAgents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and the upcoming Avengers: Age of Ultron.  So yeah, I think this toy is very deserved.  The likeness is pretty great as well.

Time for some Group and Comparison Pics!

Here she with with her 3-Pack companions: Nick Fury and Agent Coulson.

And here she is with last year's Black Widow, with whom she shares many parts.

And here she is with both versions of the 2008 Marvel Legends Maria Hill.

Sharon Carter's head was a swap-out with one of the 2008 Marias.

Cheers!

  1. I never bought any 6" movie Avengers stuff as we never had Widow. Now we have both Widow & Hill! Looks like I'll be tracking down a full 6" movie set.

Maria looks really good. The head seemed a bit big in early shots, but she seems fine here.

    1. I'm impressed with the movie figures lately. It makes me wish that the figures were this good way back when the X-Men movies started. I would have loved a mystique in this quality.

  2. I cannot wait to get this. Makes the old Maria look like not much. Love the face and hair specially.

    1. Yes, Marvel Legends has been knocking it out of the park with the faces lately. I keep expecting a bad one to sneak in but it just hasn't happened yet.
