Late 2017 Collection of MARVEL MINI-MATES!

Marvel Mini-Mates Series 72, TRU 24, and Walgreens Wave 5-7 - DST 2017

Photographing small toys is a bit cumbersome for me. My photo tent is set up for 6 inch figures, so when it comes to the little guys I have to construct a stage of sorts to ensure they're properly lit. So out of laziness I tend to pile up a bunch of tiny figures and photograph them all at once. Mini-mates are a prime example of that. This post will collect all the Mini-mates I've picked up since May (when the Guardians of the Galaxy waves hit). Included will be Spiral, Hela, Gwenpool, Ms. Marvel, Captain Marvel, Black Cat, Proxima Midnight, Spider-girl (Petra Parker), Medusa, and White Tiger. Diamond Select Toys really haven't been skimping with character selection. It seems like every couple months there is some heavy-hitter heroine on the shelves. Plus I love having yet another reason to stalk all my Walgreens stores. I hope Mini-mates last a long long time and I will keep buying them as long as they keep this level of character diversity up. Let's check out this newest batch of Mini-mate ladies below!

Captain Marvel and Red Hulk
Avengers: Ultron Revolution (Animated) Series
Marvel Mini-Mates Walgreens Wave 7
Nov 2017

This is such a slick looking version of Carol Danvers as Captain Marvel. I thought the 2016 version was great, but she pales in comparison to this one.

Black Bolt and Medusa
Avengers Assemble (Animated) Series
Marvel Mini-Mates Walgreens Wave 6
Sept 2017

Iron Patriot and White Tiger
Ultimate Spider-Man: Web Warriors (Animated) Series
Marvel Mini-Mates Walgreens Wave 6
Sept 2017

Gladiator Thor and Hela
Thor:Ragnarok (Movie) Series
Marvel Mini-Mates - Thor: Ragnarok
Sept 2017

Gwenpool and Black Cat
Marvel Comics
Marvel Mini-Mates TRU Wave 24
Sept 2017

I was super-excited about this Gwenpool but a little bummed when I saw that the eye paint on all of them looked dull because the black was showing through (fear not! - I fixed her below!)

So I fixed this using some 99-cent Apple Barrel craft paint in "Fuchsia." It doesn't look like the right color in the tube, but it worked great.

Gwenpool came with Black Cat. I don't love this modern look for Felicia, but as a freebie with Gwenpool I'll take her!

Ms. Marvel and Kang the Conquerer
Avengers Assemble (Animated) Series
Marvel Mini-Mates Walgreens Wave 5
June 2017

Spider-Girl and Carnage-Hulk
Ultimate Spider-Man: Web Warriors (Animated) Series
Marvel Mini-Mates Walgreens Wave 5
June 2017

There is an original Spider-Girl in the modern animated cartoons named Petra Parker. As apposed to May Parker being an offspring of Peter, Petra is an alternate version of Peter from a gender-swapped dimension. As far as I know this is the the only toy of her out there.

Iron Man Mark 2 and Proxima Midnight
Avengers Assemble (Animated) Series
Marvel Mini-Mates Walgreens Wave 5
June 2017

I don't know much about Proxima Midnight besides the fact that she looks cool, she is an acolyte-of-sorts to Thanos, and it's rumored that she will have a big role in the Infinity War movie(s).

Mojo and Spiral
Wolverine Series
Marvel Mini-mates Wave 72
April 2017 (also a Lady Deathstrike)

My first favorite comic artist was Arthur Adams. I have several long boxes full of his comics. In fact, I was an Adams completist until just a few years ago when he became the go-to person for ultra-rare alternate covers that I could no longer afford. I'm not joking when I say the only thing I was missing was a single rare calendar. I had all the comics, zines, sketchbooks, convention brochures, trading cards, even his chef boyardee soup cans. It's a shame when you get priced out of something you've been loyal to for so long. Anyway, Art Adams was the co-creator of Spiral (and the whole Mojoverse) in his career-launching Longshot series from 1985. I think spiral was really ahead of her time and I see her influence in almost every Image character from the 90s.

I love when DST will take all the extra measures to make two (dare I say, obsolete?) characters represented perfectly. The amount of original tooling in this two-pack isn't something you see everyday.

Time for some Group and Comparison Pics!

Here is the Walgreens batch from mid-Summer, Proxima Midnight, Spider-Girl, and Ms. Marvel.

And everytime I get a new Spider-Lady and I can't help taking a picture of the group.

And here is the more recent batch: Hela, Medusa, Gwenpool, Spiral, White Tiger, Captain Marvel, and Black Cat.

Cheers!

  1. I was going to make a joke asking when we were going to get a Hulkbuster Hulk, but I see they've already made it! I agree that Walgreen's is killing it in the collector department. There's one right down the street from me and I'm constantly surprised by new Funko Pops or Minimates. This newest wave with Captain Marvel.. I hadn't even seen promo pics of it yet! I have to be careful, though. If too much time goes by I start buying thing outside my collection, like those little stackable egg things.. I forget what they're called.

    1. Tsum tsums... i actually bought the Marvel Women of Power set at Walmart and kind of love them. But I'm resisting the urge! I have a TON of walgreens as well, including 5 in walking distance. Collecting is even more of a slippery slope with these store so accessible.

  2. Damn, what a collection! Have you read Capt. Marvel/Ms. Marvel "Generations" yet ...? It's here waiting to be read, will likely post on as I acquired their Marvel Legends releases.

    1. I haven't read that yet. I've actually really put the breaks on with my comic buying (although I majorly increased my graphic novel buying). I did recently pick up some issue with a lenticular Captain Marvel cover homage to a retro cover.. can't remember what the actual issue is though :\
