Avatar - Movie Masters NEYTIRI!

James Cameron's Avatar - Movie Masters Series 01 - Neytiri - Mattel 2009

Avatar was one of my favorite movies of the last decade. I went to see it on a whim without any great expectations. It also happened to be the first modern 3-D movie I had seen. I was instantly swept into the story. It was a little Ferngully, a little Dances With Wolves, but mostly it was its own beast. I ended up seeing it about four times in the theatre, That's only happened two other times in my life: with Kill Bill and Lion King.  My favorite thing about Avatar was the forested moon of Pandora with all its alien flora and fauna.  At one point I had purchased every creature available in this line.  The were pretty big.  I had no room to display them except on my dining room table in my old apartment.  At one point my landlord had to come over for something and I was pretty embarrassed of the spectacle of it all.  Eventually I sold them all except my Neytiris, and I always kind of regret that.  Neytiri was an amazing character in the film, I'm hoping that she plays a major role in the sequels and gets more figures!

This Movie Masters figure is very decent, but it falls short of its potential.  Let's check her out in detail below!

All the light blue dots on her body glow in the dark creating a roadmap of lines in the dark.

I know the Na'vi race is super tall and elongated in comparison to humans, but this action figure actually exaggerated that stature too much.   Her neck and body should be about 20-30% shorter.  This is my only gripe with this figure.

Neytiri came with her bow and arrow.  She also came with a "Webcam I-Tag" which was supposed to create a 3-D image of Neytiri when you viewed the tag through a webcam.  I was never able to make this feature work.

Neytiri's clothing (her loincloth and feather décolletage) is made of soft rubber and is removable.  Here are a couple nude pics.  These photos also show off her bioluminescent spots best.  I will add a picture soon showing her glowing.

Time for some Group and Comparison Pics!

Here is the Zoe Saldana trifecta: Cadet Uhura, Neytiri, and Gamora.  She's now tied with Sigourney Weaver now for merchandised characters! (Aliens, Ghostbusters, Avatar).

Here she is with the basic 3.75" figure from Mattel and the light-up McDonalds Happy Meal figure.

Cheers!

  1. To this day, I am sad this is the best Ney'Tiri toy we have. I bought and sold her - just terrible articulation, especially her chest joint. I wish they asked Neca instead to make a toy. Too bad that the only good toy of her is a thousand-dollar statue.

    1. I completely agree. Hopefully the sequel in 2017 will bring more (and better) toys. My favorite Neytiri product is actually the Gentle Giant bust (with the bow and arrow). It look really great in person. Someday I'll splurge and get it.

    2. I wish we had any news on the next movie, at all. I mean, hard to believe it has been almost 10 years since the first one! And yes, that's the statue I meant. It's just soooo overpriced, and I prefer moveable poseable action figures.
