Marvel Legends - SQUIRREL GIRL!

Marvel Legends: Legendary Riders - The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl - Hasbro 2020

My growing excitement leading up to NYTF led me to look back at my biggest Marvel Legends predictions from 2019. And I realized I had a very impressive year for wish fulfillment. My list included such broad suggestions as Alpha Flight and New Mutants. Preposterous, right? While the completist in me isn't 100% satisfied until we get a couple more characters, I don't think I could have ever predicted that kind of turnout from Hasbro. But an even less-likely hope was for a Squirrel Girl figure. Although there was a weird slip/false reveal several years ago when some guys at Hasbro said she was going to be in the A-Force box set, it was still surprising to see this odd little character in all her quirky glory as a deluxe "Ultimate" release. The reality of this figure is hard to grasp. Now we desperately need Chipmunk Hunk and Koi Boi...as soon as they get cooler costumes (like Luciano Vecchio's amazing Koi Boi redesign on his instagram). I want the whole Squirrel Girl crew on my shelves. Let's check out Doreen below!

Note the black doll stand I'm using to prop her up in the picture below. Her tail is surprisingly heavy. I thought they would have made it super hollow and lightweight (like the lightweight plastic big wings are sometimes made of). But she is unfortunately very backheavy and hard to stand.

Doreen comes with this cute scooter - complete with a basket and horn.

And she wouldn't be Squirrel Girl without some furry sidekicks. The one with the bow is her bestie, Tippy-Toe.

So here's what frustrates me about action figures with vehicles: They almost never have the ability to ride them, or even closely pose like they might be sitting on them. God forbid you try to get them to hold the handlebars. Despite the big seat (presumably to make room for her tail) and the pegs in the footwells, her articulation, body proportions, tail, and open hands demote this vehicle to a random prop. And it's a pretty specific with the color scheme and basket. It's not like Jean Grey is going to be zipping around the Salem Estate in this thing. I know this scooter was likely designed with all preferences given to the proportions of the Deadpool figure (the scooter is basically the same mold as his Riders set), but i feel like the slightest tweak could have made this significantly more functional for Doreen.

Time for some Group and Comparison Pics!

Here are all my Squirrel Girls so far. From Left to Right: Funko Pop, Marvel Mini-Mates, Monogram Keychain, Marvel Gallery Statue, Holiday Pint-Size Heroes, Marvel Legends, and Dorbz.

Cheers!
