Thor Ragnarok - JANE FOSTER THOR!

Marvel Legends - Thor Ragnarok (Hulk Build-a-Figure Wave) - Thor - Hasbro 2017

This is one of those Marvel Legends figures that I've been dreaming of for a long time. One of my favorite themes in comics is when an established bedrock character gets re-imagined as female. This has been happening a lot in recent years, especially in the Marvel Universe, and when Jane Foster picked up Mjolnir back in 2014 and assumed the mantle of Thor, she became one of my favorite examples of this gender-flip. Now of course I have a reignited desire to see characters like Laura in the All-New Wolverine costume, Riri as Ironheart, and America Chavez (ideally in her America #1 shield-shirted costume that was an homage to the Madeline Joyce Miss America of the 1940s). Who knows, with the movie buzz we may even see a Shuri Black Panther in the next year as well. This Thor figure is simply gorgeous. The detailing of the costume and the paint apps are perfect. I'm super excited to get an A-Force set and photograph all the unlikely Asgardian ladies together. Let's check out Jane Foster Thor below!

Her only personal accessory is Mjolnir.

Thor comes with the Left Leg and Shoulder Harness Build-a-Figure pieces for Hulk.

This figure is great. But overall, she has kind of a bulky feel. Her cape and waistcoats are heavy an limit her poseability and her hair also limits the positioning of her head.

This Jane Foster Thor figure was first released just a few weeks ago as part of the large Thor-Themed SDCC 2017 Boxset. Similar to last year's immediate re-release of Enchantress, there are a few subtle differences between the two figures. The SDCC one has a translucent hammer, blue eyes (retail version's are white), a flesh-colored neck (retail version has a black neck, and the back of the SDCC's waistcoat is distinctly greenish-brown, while the retail's waistcoat is more of an orangey-brown. Not too many differences, but it's worth mentioning. I've been paying attention to in-hand reviews of the SDCC figure and all these differences are in the final production version as well as this solicit image below. The hair and cape may be brighter as well, but it's difficult to tell.

Time for some Group and Comparison Pics!

Here she is with Hela.

From Left to Right: Monogram Keyring, Funko POP, Mini-Mates, Marvel Legends, Marvel Universe, Rock Candy. (I forgot her Tsum Tsum!)

Cheers!

  1. Hot damn! I don't know which Thor figure I want between this and the Marvel universe. Plus it helps that I like the female Thor more anyway. She's badass, pretty fun as the original and she gels well with other heroes.

    1. I like her better than the original Thor as well. Mostly because we got to follow her as she was figuring things out. It was a great new way to lure the readers in to the complicated Asgardian history.

    1. Did you think it wouldn't happen? I always had faith. But now that the upcoming X-23 figure was unveiled I'm afraid we'll never get a laura wolverine... so I'm not totally free of Hasbro-induced anxiety haha

  3. I love this figure. I'm not that familiar with her, but I renewed my Marvel Unlimited subscription today so that I can catch up a bit.

I was one of the lucky ones to get ahold of an A-Force set, but split it with a friend due to financial constraints. I'm hoping it shows up again at TRU either in stores or online so that I can round up Sif, Monica Rambeau and Singularity. I hope you can get a set soon as well. I always enjoy seeing your take on figures.

    1. Got my AForce set last night and am eager to photograph them. I've also been meaning to read Nextwave forever so now I feel extra incentive to do so since I don't know who Else is and the only modern Monica stories I've read was that weird series with firestar and hellcat.

  4. Though a little on the stocky side, I am so happy to finally have this figure that I won't complain!

    1. I think anytime you add costume accessories to a muscular buck like the moonstone body you're going to end up with a stocky figure. But I actually think she's perfect. I'm so bored of tall twiggy figures that I welcome any body diversity I can get, even if it's just an illusion from bulky clothes.

    2. You've got a point there. The ML Black Window is so thin that her legs always look a little too bowed to me on the shelf.

  5. Yeah, you're right about the differences with the SDCC version, and the cape is a brighter red indeed. Though I don't think the haircolor is any different. I liked the colors better on the SDCC version, and love the translucent hammer, so I went for that one :-). I think it's a bit weird they didn't paint the neck joint black on the retail version by the way, but easy to touch up yourself ;-). I got my A-Force set last week, and really love it!! Sif, Lady Loki and Monica Rambeau are particularly great to me..only complaint really is that (apart from Elsa Bloodstone) they could've included more accessoires, at least a magic effect for Loki, Monica and Singularity for instance. And oh, be careful with some of the joints (ankle, shoulder and elbow), they are really tight; some to the point of almost being stuck..Have you got a set already ShesFantastic? Really looking forward to your next reviews! Ok, off to get hold of a ML Hela, really need to have her!

    1. Interesting about the cape being brighter. I kind of think the maroon of the standard release is a little dark so I might swap her out. Although I definitely prefer the plain silver hammer.

Funny you should ask, I just got my AFORCE set last night. I photographed the box and opened them up but probably won't get a chance to photograph the figures until Monday. It's such a cool set, but I agree there should be more accessories (especially to disguise Loki giant hands!) The Dr Strange figs are on clearance around here so maybe I'll start scoping out some potential accessory reappropriation.
